It's time for the Proud Mary microtrope reveal and you newsies get first peek at 'em!
[Newsies celebration gif]
I think by now, everyone and their dog knows that all my books have an agony wank in them (you're welcome), and this agony wank is one for the history books FOR SURE, but I ain't no one-trick pony, Bronies. Proud Mary also has the "he comes in his pants" microtrope, so, really, I'm just leveling up with the feral fun times left right and center. (Again, you're welcome.)
But seriously, if we briefly exit the gutter, let's examine the FACTS: we've also got a divorced, 6'4" cat dad who COOKS AND BAKES FOR HER, banters with his buddies, and takes care of her when she's sick? HELLO!
Basically, what I'm saying is: you're gonna looooove Gus Shepherd, who might be a cat daddy but is definitely not a 🥵daddy🥵 if you catch my drift. 'Cause if you're looking for a 🥵daddy🥵, Mary will handle it, thankyouverymuch.
Anyway I'll stop my unhinged nonsense (thank you, editing brain!) and share with you the rest of the microtropes:
[Microtropes in Proud Mary: cat daddy, she tattoos him, he cooks for her, height difference, "funcle", agony wank, "fuck it" moment, he carries her, on-page texts, he loves to eat, "fucking pie", buddy/sibling banter, he comes in his pants, caretaking]
And, for accessibility purposes, here they are in TEXTUAL form:

I'll be posting these puppies on Instagram on Wednesday (Oct 14th) so it'll be your cheeky secret inside scoop until then! LUCKY YOU!
As always, I would love love love if you could pre-order Proud Mary, because pre-orders help indie authors huuuugely!! I'm also only 4 pre-orders away from my goal, and I would love to smash it before release day!
Thank you for being awesome possums and for all your support!
Another IG LIVE with Katie Van Brunt!

KVB and I got up to our usual shenanigans this past Monday (Oct 5th) on IG Live (mainly getting on rambly tangents), so check out our chat if you missed it!

Check out these indie romance reads and beef up your TBR!
Wesley Hayes is known for two things: breaking hearts with that too-innocent smile and being the team's clown. He’s the guy with the easy laugh, reckless charm, and the life of the party—the man who never takes anything seriously.
At least, that’s what everyone believes. He’s fought tooth and nail for his spot on the Chicago Strikers. But without a contract extension, when the season ends, so could everything he’s worked his entire life for. For the first time, the jokes feel forced. The pressure is real. And getting distracted isn’t an option.
Olivia Anderson never planned on starting over. Again. New city. New job. Another shot at something real. She’s done wanting for things she can’t have—and determined to take back the years she spent forgetting who she was.
The only problem? Her temporary living arrangement comes with one very familiar complication.
Her brother’s best friend. Her lifelong annoyance.
They’ve always argued like it’s a sport and pushed each other’s buttons. But forced proximity has a way of turning tension into something far more dangerous.
Especially when Olivia makes a confession she never meant to say out loud.
She’s tired of being inexperienced. Tired of not knowing what she wants—or how to ask for it.
Wesley should shut it down.
Instead, he offers to teach her.
What starts as innocent lessons turns into the inevitable crossed line they can’t come back from.
Fifteen hours to fall in love. One second to lose it all. On the first day of my medical internship, I expected pressure. Maybe even chaos. I didn’t expect him—Dr. Zachery Bennett, my most regular client at Eden—to be standing in the ER as the head of the department. Over one explosive, unrelenting shift, the line between who we are inside the hospital and who we pretend to be in the gentlemen’s club, Eden, begins to blur. I fall—harder than I ever meant to. But when a broken heart begins a deadly rampage in triage, I’m forced to confront the truth I’ve been avoiding: My body is failing. My feelings are real. And the man I was never supposed to love might be the only one who can save me. We may not survive the next hour. But if we do, neither of us is walking away.
First: Bryce Clark’s sole focus was getting an Olympic gold medal, not a girlfriend.
Second: That didn’t stop me from falling hard.
For six years, we would hook up whenever we were in the same city. My whole life revolved around swimming and him, until it was all gone. His dream came true, while I closed mine down and walked away.
I was done with swimming and Bryce Clark.
But the universe had other plans for me. Two years later, he’s back and I can’t escape him. He’s everywhere, and he’s asking for a second chance. A chance I’m not sure I’m ready to give.
He’s working across the hall, forcing me to reconcile the man before me with the one I knew; making me realize no dream pans out exactly how we want it to. Giving him that chance would mean talking about the past. Which I’m definitely not ready for.
I’m not interested in going back. I’m tired of maybe, of not knowing where I stand in his life…
But I’m also tired of wondering what we could have been if we had the chance.
